Avoid having to say "if only" after a major repair by taking the first step to get your house in order with a plan.
It begins with a commitment to listing what needs to be done, deciding the priority and saving the funds to do the work once you have the money.
It will probably be tough at first because home maintenance is not cheap. But it will be much cheaper to do maintenance rather than a big repair or replacement.
Once you get into the habit of setting goals for the next item to be addressed you can progress from repairing to improving.
Saving towards something to improve your home is better than paying to keep it as it is.
But first things first.
The Maintenance Plan is a comprehensive list of all the items on your property that will need occasional or regular maintenance. The initial assessment will highlight the areas that will need to be addressed first and potentially require a more in depth inspection to determine the situation.
It will list the items in order of priority and allow you to decide which to tackle first based on the condition or the cost of the work.
Slowly at first.
Being able to set aside a certain amount every month is first prize but might take a while to save the amounts needed. Once the big issues are addressed or ideally because there are no big issues you may have more than a year to save for the next required maintenance work.
The sooner you start and the more you are able to set aside the easier it becomes and hopefully your maintenance plan becomes your development plan to turn your house into your dream home.
